Artist Name: Carleen De Sozer

After winning 2 art awards (Haringey Arts Council 6 th Open Exhibition) and then the (Apthorp fund for young artist) Summer 2000 was the year that Carleen De Sözer realized that she could make a living from selling her art to the public. In the summer of 2000 Carleen landed smack bang in the heart of busy Portobello Market, with a backpack full of hand painted pictures on canvas boards. Her Afro wearing characters soon became her trademark, she put these cool characters onto t-shirts and just about anything else you could wear. She quickly became a well-known fixture to Portobello Market where she traded for the next 4 years switching constantly between fashion and art. In 2006 Carleen started a personal airbrushing service where she would visit shops and present her ‘AIRBRUSH UR GARMS’ days, airbrushing customers clothes on the spot. This project ran for a year until she felt she was fully established as an airbrush artist. Making big waves with her latest collection Carleen De Sözer is widely regarded as one of London’s most skilled and diverse airbrush artists. Hailing from London this gritty artist took time out from her “normal” art direction to launch the successful urban clothing range – IRVING before currently returning to the street scene where she is finding yet more success with her highly appealing freehand and stencilled airbrush pieces. Over the last 10 years Carleen has been consistent in supplying art in many formats, from graphic design to airbrushing, from logos to cd covers, from canvas to walls, from t shirt design to teaching her talent to the youth…it’s fair to say that Carleen loves her job. Ask her what she does for a living and she’ll comfortable state “I supply art for a living”.
