Abigail Smith

Abigail Smith (Studio) uses puppetry, drawing and sculpture to create curious illustrations capturing folklore, nature, and their hidden stories.
The materials she uses are connected by their tactile character – using recycled textiles in puppets, building texture into clay, and bold mark marking in pen drawings. This creates a feeling the image is tangible, past the picture frame, leading to questions of where it came from, what it looks like from another viewpoint, what’s the story? She is expanding her visual language by applying more of her whimsical and spooky illustrations to different forms – sharing a bit more magic into people’s spaces all year round.
Abigail Smith is a graduate of UWE Bristol, where she studied Illustration. She continues to live and work in Bedminster, Bristol, and you can often find her working at local pottery studio MAKE Bristol and at markets across the southwest.
