Kya Beers

Mixed media artist Kya Beers blends dualities on canvas: light and dark, abstract and realism, whimsy and sorrow. Exploring self-love in progress—holding joy and darker truths, together.
Kya Beers is a Bristol-based mixed media artist from the coastal town of Ilfracombe, Devon. Working through portraiture, text, and natural elements, she builds oil paintings on layered, abstract grounds – combining gestural mark-making with spray paint, drawing and collage- like surfaces. Her practice is rooted in duality: light and dark, tenderness and bite, humour
and heaviness.
Beers’ recent work, has emerged from a conscious journey toward self-love and self-acceptance – not as a final state, but as an expanding space where the full emotional spectrum is allowed to exist. In her paintings, faces act as thresholds rather than fixed identities; smoke, petals and shifting colour suggest what lingers, what changes, and what can’t always be spoken directly. Influenced by childhood memory and 90s pop culture, Beers balances a vibrant visual
language with a darker undertone, inviting viewers to sit with contradiction without turning away. Alongside her studio practice, she values art as a point of connection – creating welcoming spaces for conversation through exhibitions, workshops and collaborative charity projects.
