Natasha Sweeting
Natasha Sweeting Dickens is a Tanzanian artist and graphic designer with over 25 years of professional practice. She studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, Loughborough University, and the Kent Institute of Art & Design, and has exhibited her work across the United Kingdom, Tanzania, and Greece.
She is best known for her vivid, large-scale portraits that celebrate women of colour, inspired by the strength and resilience of the women she grew up with in her hometown of Dar es Salaam. Her work is characterised by saturated colour and bold pattern, drawing influence from African textiles and the Tinga Tinga movement of post-colonial Tanganyika.
Working at scale has always been central to Natasha’s practice, making the transition from canvas to murals a natural step. She is drawn to mural-making for its strong sense of community, its cultural and political voice, and its ability to bring vibrant, accessible art into public spaces.
