Sophie Backwell
I’m Sophie, a Bristol-born artist who has been drawing for as long as I can remember. Creating has always come naturally to me—it’s how I process the world and express what I can’t always put into words. Over time, my practice has grown across a range of mediums, mainly pencil, watercolour, and acrylic, allowing me to experiment and let each piece develop in its own way.
My work is all about feeling. I’m not chasing perfection I’m more interested in capturing something real and raw that people can connect with. I want my art to make you stop, think, and react. Whether that’s through bold lines, subtle detail, or strange ideas, I aim to create pieces that spark conversation and invite different interpretations.
Outside of my art, I’m deeply inspired by music, the people around me, and the world we live in. My family means everything to me, and their support has played a huge role in shaping who I am as both a person and an artist. I’m also incredibly proud to be part of the Neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ community, which continues to influence my perspective and creative voice. I’m passionate about politics and the social issues we face today, especially around diversity and inclusion, and these themes often find their way into my w
