Alice Sims

Alice Sims is an artist creating work inspired by nature, informed by her background as an ecologist and her upbringing in a village amongst the Brecon Beacons. Spending time so much time outdoors has given her a close connection to the landscapes she paints.

Working mainly in acrylics, but also watercolour and mixed media, Alice paints in tune with the seasons. Her pieces are thought up through her observation of flora and fauna on everyday dog walks, grouping together the plants, animals and small details that define a particular time of year.

She’s especially drawn to the parts of nature people often overlook such as, lichen and fungi on fallen logs and celebrating the plants that are often considered weeds. Her work focuses on these quiet corners, highlighting their colour, texture and importance in the wider ecosystem.

Alice’s paintings reflect both her artistic practice and her ecological perspective, encouraging a closer look at the natural world and a greater appreciation for the details we might usually pass by.
