Zmaja

Maja Stojanović (Zmaja) is a Canadian-born Serbian muralist and illustrator based in Belgrade, Serbia. Born in Toronto and shaped by life between Canada, Serbia, and the USA, her work brings vibrant color and cartoon-inspired, highly stylized characters into public space. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Arts from Seattle University in 2019.

In 2021, she joined the DUK (Days of Urban Culture) Festival in Čačak, contributing to a growing body of murals that completely transformed the city’s visual identity. Her work often features animals and fantastical figures, most notably stylized creatures with large, curious eyes. A recurring motif is the rabbit, symbolizing rebirth and new beginnings.

Maja has painted across Serbia and internationally, including in Switzerland, Germany, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, and has participated in several local and international festivals.
